I'm proud of Gerard, he managed to get out from under drug addiction and alcoholism to get to where he is, he inspires teens everywhere to keep on living, like me there was a time when I wanted to give up and just die and then I found Gerard and I learned his story and he inspired me to live. Why is he a hero? 'Cause on MCR's latest, The Black Parade, he sings about someone dying too young from cancer. Reminds me of my mama. At any rate, he's my hero. I agree with everyone on here. Gerard is the real hero. He is the rightful winner too. He and My Chemical Romance have saved so many lives with their music and lyrics. There have been so many people, some that I personally know, that have thought about suicide but were seriously helped by listening to this man's music. Not only does he, and the whole band, speak out AGAINST suicide, they actually personally talk to their fans, and care about them unlike a lot of "popular" bands nowadays. Gerard himself triumphed over severe alcoholism and drug use and managed to fix his own life and stay sober. He gives people the courage to keep on living and to be whatever they want to be. He lets kids know that its okay to not be perfect, or everything that society wants them to be, and that there are others like them, they are not alone, and they should love themselves. What has anyone else on this list done? I really think it is an insult that he was running for hero against YouTube, and let alone "Borat". How many people's lives have they turned around? Even though he didn't "win" by AOL standards, he is, and always will be, a true hero for me and for every single one of his dedicated fans. - D.N.P.
