11. Serena-ManeeshAlthough this episode of the Interface has yet to see the light of day it remains a personal fave. 8+ people crammed into out lil studio with some bevvies and a wall-of-sound being made wellllllll past 2am. ahhh good times. Serena's main madman and sonic genius, Emil, took these recordings back to Norway for "treatment" and has promised to send us something special from them soon. Keep your eyes on spinner.com for updates.- Check em out on iTunes |
10. Sarah SilvermanWithin the first five minutes of walking into our studio Sarah somehow managed to both (a) seriously offend us all and (b) work the sentence "can you link to my a**hole?" into conversation. *dreamy sigh* sarah, call me! ;)- iTunes linkage for 'Jesus is Magic' |
9. Jeremy EnigkThis man can f'n sing. I seriously had visible goosebumps after he played 'how it feels to be something on' (and i was never even a sunny day fan) This performance + the Mew Interface below = some of the best rainy/chill day music evah.- iTunes link for 'World Waits' |
8. Eagles of Death MetalScientific fact: Joshua Homme is more mountain than man. Seriously, the dood is *huge*. This combined with his penchant for getting into brawls can a somewhat hesitant interviewer make. lucky for me, it wasn't even an issue as joshua and jesse were easily some of the nicest and funniest m'fers i've ever had the pleasure of being around. Can't you just feel the love in the room from the above pic?- DEATH BY SEXY (best title ever, btw) on iTunes |
7. Mojave 3The last time i saw / babbled with Neil was seemingly another lifetime ago... i was a lowly college rep. and he was touring with his former band, Slowdive. I'm glad to report that as much as things change they stay the same...he's as humble, personable and talented as always. Perhaps in another 15 years time i'll have the cahones to bug him to play something off of 'just for a day' :)- 'Just for a Day' on iTunes (one of my all time favorite records, btw) - 'Puzzles Like You' on iTunes |
6. The Black AngelsIt took forever and a day to set this one up but i'm a damn happy that we were able to make it happen. this random crew of twenty-somethings from Austin, TX have somehow managed to channel and perfect the drone / psych sound of the '60s. Really, really good stuff.(not so) interesting fact : they literally ran out the door practically mid-interview since because they were so late for their soundcheck with the Black Keys. - 'Passover' on iTunes |
5. Silversun PickupsHooray for burning candles at both ends! T'was the night before Interface and all through the house, not a sound was heard because everyone, including myself were at the Mercury Lounge watching the Silversun Pickups and drinking (heavily.) After an amazing show with two encores i finally stumbled home a lil after 1:30am or so ... the Silversuns, on the other hand, decided to haul their gear around the corner for... you guessed it... ANOTHER full show @ 'Pianos'. madness. The next morning we all bonded over the wonders of caffeine and, of course, MUSIC. Many thanks to mr Brian for breaking out the acoustic guitar just for us :)I predict many a big thing for these guys (n gal) in 2007 and it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. - buy 'Carnavas' on iTunes. this is the best damn record of the year. trust me, i'm a doctor. |
4. MewThis is one of those performances that on paper really shouldn't have turned out this good but yet somehow did. Infact, i would go so far as to say that it is stupid good. yes, thats a positive thing. Oh and did i mention that they're Danes? always a plus... my peeps!- hear them and their 'glass handed kites' (whatever those are) on iTunes |
3. Walter SchreifelsEven though we have something like a dozen friends in common, It quite literally took us months to track Walter down. Lucky for us (and you!) one of Mew's label peeps just happened to be his neighbor (can you say random?) Scott, Mike and I sat giddily as he 'played the hits' for us in our tiny lil studio. It's a crime that this man isn't a household name. help fix that and listen to him immediately.- "Start today" with Gorilla Biscuits on iTunes - Quicksand's 'Slip' on iTunes - Rival Schools on iTunes - Walking Concert on iTunes |
2. Nada SurfOh how i love this band. They're complete masters of infectious and intelligent indie pop-rocky goodness and i can't F'n wait for their next record. In the meantime their amazing eight song Interface performance will have to hold me over. Hurry up matthew! ;)- 'The Weight is a Gift' on iTunes |
1. Noel (fookin) GallagherI think i've probably seen Oasis live more times than any other band ... and if you know me, thats really saying something. Having him perform one of my all time favorite songs ('whatever') 5 feet away? A Surreal moment to say the least. As Ice Cube once so eloquently said ... 'It was a pretty good day.'- 'Stop the Clocks'! its a best of Oasis on iTunes |
